The Royal Reception Rooms

Throne Room

Step into The Throne Room, where silk wallpaper and gold leaf create the setting for a very special room. It is from the balcony of the Throne Room that Denmark's new rulers are proclaimed.

In January 2024, Denmark's new king Frederik X waited in this room before stepping over the threshold onto the balcony in front of hundreds of thousands of people as the kingdom's new regent. The tradition of proclaiming new monarchs on Slotsholmen goes way back in time and is still upheld today - at Christiansborg Palace history happens every day.

The King's Staircase

The King's Staircase is the entrance to The Royal Reception Rooms for both everyday life and celebrations. When you walk up The Kings Staircase, you follow in the footsteps of many people who have visited Christiansborg Palace before you over the past 100 years - either to attend gala parties with the royal family or as a visitor in The Royal Reception Rooms.

On your way up the stairs you can admire tapestries, sculptures and an over 100-year-old split flag given to Christian X.
